Murder at the Farm

The Farm is mourning the killing of 5 sweet hens late Saturday Afternoon.... I have not slept yet because I have a sixth hen who I found wounded and hiding late in the night so I spent time to clean her up and dress her wounds and sit with her in my lap. She is still struggling and if I feel there is no hope I will ease her crossing but for now she ate a couple of blueberries I thawed from the freezer and tiny torn pieces of my whole wheat bread that I baked on Friday.

I sit here again feeling like I got hit by a Mac Truck!!! I hope my sweet girls did not suffer too much and I pray that the injured girl will find the strength to carry on but if not I will be with her today as she takes her final breaths. So I hope to move her basket into the bathroom with me because I could so use a shower but I will wait till she looks like she can be out of my sight long enough for me to jump in and jump out.

Please keep her in your thoughts and say a blessing for those who lives ended. I know the circle of life too well and they where loved while with me.. Now, on the other hand who ever came in and committed this act will be on the hit list with me.

Thank you Dear One - I cried so many tears that I could not believe there was that much moisture left in me. I spent the morning coughing my head off as well because of the smoke from the fire up North. It is so thick in the air. I hope this morning is finding you a bit rested and feeling a bit back to normal.. I thought of you thru the night... Hugs

I hope your hen comes through okay and that you find the perpetrator and deal with it before any more hens get hurt!! {{HUGS}}

Oh my! I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our first 6 chickens to what we think was a weasel or raccoon. It was horrible. We also, like you, had one hen left. We called her "Road Runner" since we felt she ran for her life to save herself. Hugs.

I did not know Grace or I would have been here to talk. So sad about your chickens. Best to focus on how happy they were than to think about their end.

You are so loving to all your animals, they are very lucky to have you!

*hugs*

Thank you so very much Jaime for your kind words and support. I know you know that this is part of a farm life but still it is never easy... I keep you in my thoughts and give that little girl of yours a snug from me.

Candy thank you for your kind words - as the update she did not make it but we had two days to be together and me love on her thru her passing. That is all I can asked for when something like this happens.

Oh Kristina I know of your loss. Over 20 years of raising chickens I have lost many but it still is never easy. The hard part to this is then hens only had broken necks which are not the norms for animals who kill hens - so it worries me since I do not know who did this. Anyway, I thank you for your kind words and support.

Fran so very true. Today I put out the sprinkler and they ran in and out of it like little kids. They are still too scared to be alone by themselves so I stood with them while they played...

Thank you for your kind words and support - I still can not get on FB so I can not answer your FB comments. Sorry..
