Scream Fest with my Breakfast

After a bitter cold night at the farm and me doing several animal checks through the night to make sure all was faring well through their first 10 degree night a hot breakfast was on my mind from the moment I got out of the warmth of my bed. As I made my way down the stairs and to the coffee pot my slow moving brain clicked into the fact that the Banana Squash bread that I made Wednesday afternoon was just screaming to be sliced and eaten..

So I again asked the oven to wake up and get to work. I placed the bacon in the cast iron skillet
and in the oven, cracked two fresh eggs into my small cast iron skillet and popped that in the oven and started the coffee pot.

I was a happy camper this morning because on the TV was playing one of my all time favorite Horror Movies "THE FOG".. The original one - "Yep, there's a fog bank out there!!" Another scream fest for Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie even includes her mother which makes you think it might be on the level of Psycho but don't get your hopes up too far. Quick, which movie did the screaming Mother/Daughter team appear in which Jamie was given the title of " Sequel Scream Queen?" (is it too early for Horror Movie Trivia?) I remember seeing "The Fog" at the drive in and it scared me but now I have a giggle fest through the lumbering dialogue and very basic special effects. What in the world could have scared me?? That was back in the day when shock fests were just in the beginning stages and the movie goer was just a babe in the woods.

So now I sit here enjoying my breakfast, planning the day and enjoying the week long horror movie festivals that will be playing on the boob tube thanks to Halloween. I hope you have a wonderful day and watch out "There's a Fog Bank Out There" or in my case "There's a Snow Bank Out There".

Looks yummy! Have fun with your "Horror Fest". I know what you mean about those films scaring me as a kid and now....pretty funny. Just shows how much we have progressed. After all, it's the fear that keeps us stuck....

The early horror flicks were scary I think because it was all so "new" to us! That and a lot of anticipation. Now it seems they are all just gore. Blech!
What I really want to know is how to cook bacon and eggs in the skillet in the oven?!? I bake bacon in the oven on a rack but I would like to know about the cast iron skillet too!

Sheri your so right and I can get stuck far too easy...

Candy I set the oven at 350 place the bacon in the old skillet and into the oven, after about 6 minutes I take the small skillet, coat with a little veggie oil and crack the two eggs in. Then season to taste and then I pour around the edge a tiny bit of cream, half and half or you can use water. Put on the lid and in the over. By the time the bacon is ready so are the eggs. Perfect over easy and they slip out of the pan - no fuss. I do the same way with an omlet - just be sure to coat the lid because as it rises you dont want it sticking to the lid. Enjoy...
